Tributes paid to ‘precious angel’ Georgia Varley killed in tragic train accident

TRIBUTES have been paid to a Wirral teenager tragically killed at a railway station.

And 16-year-old Georgia Varley’s heartbroken dad said her family and friends had lost “a precious angel”.

Georgia died on Saturday night after falling between the platform and a train at Liverpool’s James Street station.

Her dad, Paul, from New Brighton said: “Georgia was just amazing. I have a constant lump in my throat and I don’t know how to feel or what to say.

“She was so loved and she never had an upside down smile on. She was such a happy girl.

“I would say to her ‘you’re always changing between groups of friends’ but she made an impression on so many people.”

In a earlier written tribute, Paul said: “If I could just hold you in my arms once more, I would never let you go.

“Our precious little angel has been taken away too soon, we are all devastated Gee.

“This was not in our plans Georgia, there is now a void that can never be filled.

“Now spread your wings and fly angel, you will never be forgotten.

“Love you forever, Dad, Amber and family.”

Georgia grew up on Francis Avenue, Birkenhead where neighbours remembered her as a fun-loving smiley young girl. She moved to Ireland with her mum before returning to Wirral.

British Transport Police said the circumstances surrounding Georgia’s death were “unclear” and officers were speaking to witnesses on the platform and the train driver.

There were around 40 people on the platform at the time, some of whom needed treatment for shock.

Floral tributes have been left at James Street station and tribute messages and photos of Georgia taped to the windows.

One said: “You brought so much joy into all our lives. There was never a day when you didn’t make me laugh.

“You’re my superstar.”

Friends continued to write tributes on a Facebook page dedicated to the teenager, which was being followed by more than 7,000 people.

Georgia was described as “beautiful”, “a princess” and “a gorgeous girl”.

One friend, Nicole O’Brien, wrote: “I’m thankful that I was lucky to be a part of such an amazing person’s life.

Shannen Walsh, a friend from Ireland, wrote on the page: “Rest in peace baby. I remember the first time you came out to all of us, you fit in straight away.

“You had a loud mouth like the rest of us.

“I'm in so much shock. We all missed you when you went back to Liverpool but it is nothing compared to how much we are all going to miss you now.
